Bradford is Michelle’s home city; born and bred in Holme Wood, she still lives within the Bradford district. Michelle is married with three young daughters, who all attend local schools and local childcare.
She was first elected in 2012 to serve as the Councillor for Clayton and Fairweather Green, and she sits on Bradford Council for the Labour Party. As well as being a Councillor, Michelle also works as a debt caseworker for an anti-poverty charity, directly helping people deal with crushing debt and helping them by negotiating a better deal with creditors.
Michelle is currently an Executive Assistant to the Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Safer Communities – working with council departments, businesses and local people to keep our streets clean, tackle crime and make our district safer. She was also appointed as Bradford District Play Champion, by the Council’s leadership – allowing Michelle to have her say on local provision for children and ensuring that this is accessible to all.
Michelle sits on many committees, representing various groups of people and departments within the Council. At present, she works on 9 committees on Bradford Council, and on 2 outside bodies. Click on links below to see more information about them.

I am very thankful to have been selected to be the candidate for the Clayton and Fairweather Green ward, the place I have represented on the Council for 4 years. When first elected I promised to roll up my sleeves and get to work campaigning for change in my ward; I hope you can judge my record and decide that I have.
I would love to take on the role again, and continue the work I have been doing with local people and businesses to make Clayton and Fairweather Green a better place to live and work in. I believe I do make a difference for the district representing you on Bradford Council, and I hope you choose to re-elect me on May 5th so I can continue my record of delivery and holding City Hall to account.
Councillor Michelle Swallow
